Today was great. We began the day with a tour of Arlington Cemetary. The changing of the guard was a favorite for most in the troop. We also saw gravesites and memorials for our soldiers in Iraq, women in the military, JFK & Robert Kennedy and the Challenger and Columbia astronauts. After watching the sergeant inspect the next guard coming on duty, they decided Mr. Bowman is really a relatively nice guy when it comes to uniform inspections.
Next we visited the Iwo Jima Memorial followed by box lunch at Haines Point.
The Museum of Natural History was after lunch and like any Smithsonian museum, offers much more than one can absorb in one visit.
We had tickets for the Washington Monument @ 3:00. It offers a great view of the city. During the elevator descent the elevator slows and the glass panels which were translucent until now become clear. The park ranger told me it was argon gas which becomes electrified to change the fog level of the panes.
We had time to visit one more museum so we gave a choice. 22 wanted to revisit the Air & Space Museum while 14 wanted to see the newly opened Native American Museum. We split into 2 groups as the museums are next to each other.
Dinner was at the Ballston Common Mall Food Court with an early return by 7:30 - Pool Time.
Tomorrow we head to Annapolis for a tour & church services followed by a visit to the National Aquarium in Baltimore.
